AEP Transmission representatives plan power grid upgrades in Madison County. The project involves building two stations and two approximately 12.5-mile transmission lines to provide power to a customer facility and help meet the area’s growing electrical load demand.
The project involves:
*This project requires Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) approval.
October 2026: AEP Transmission representatives selected a proposed line route after reviewing input gathered through landowner feedback, virtual and in-person open houses and initial field studies. The project team plans to submit an application to the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) in early 2027 seeking approval for the project. Pending approval, crews plan to begin construction in spring 2027 and conclude in late 2029.
Summer 2026: The project team hosted an in-person open house on April 30 to discuss the project and obtain feedback from the community. A virtual open house is available on the right side of the page.
As the project continues to develop, field studies are needed to help the project team decide on the final line route, as well as support engineering and environmental efforts. As part of this work, landowners may be contacted by OR Colan, Inc. (ORC), the right-of-way company working on behalf of AEP Transmission. Field studies do not confirm a line route but are a tool used to help the team during the evaluation process.
Crews plan to install steel monopole structures to support the two transmission lines, which will be located within a shared 350-foot-wide right-of-way corridor.
Structure Height: Approximately 125 - 165 feet*
Right-of-Way Width: Approximately 350 feet*
*Exact structure types, height and right-of-way requirements may vary
