Estes Farm Substation Project


The Estes Farm Substation Project involves building the Estes Farm Substation and about 2 miles of 69-kilovolt electric transmission line and is closely related to the Bancroft-Milton Transmission Line Rebuild Project.

Project Updates

July 31, 2026: Appalachian Power invites community members and landowners in the project area to an in-person open house to speak with project members to learn more. There is no formal presentation, so landowners can attend at any time at a location most convenient to them.

Typical Substation

Substations serve as electrical intersections directing the flow of electricity and either decrease or increase voltage levels for transport. Substations transform 69-kV and 138-kV electricity into lower distribution level voltages such as 34.5-kV, 12-kV, or 7.2-kV.
