Van Wert - Haviland Transmission Line Project

The project involves upgrading about 10 miles of 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line that connects Haviland and Van Wert substations with a 138-kV power line. While company representatives plan to build most of the power line in the existing right-of-way corridor, plans call for re-routing a section of the line near Van Wert.

The project replaces aging equipment dating back to the 1920s with modern facilities. These improvements reduce the likelihood of future power outages and increase the power line capacity to support the growing electrical load in the area.

Project Updates

SUMMER 2026: As the project progresses, AEP Ohio representatives have identified proposed adjustments to the previously approved line route near Van Wert to reconfigure the transmission line’s entry into the station to address detailed engineering design and landowner requests. AEP Ohio officials have submitted these adjustments with the OPSB as the Van Wert-Haviland 138 kV Transmission Line Adjustment Project, Public Utilities Commission of Ohio Case No. 26-0729-EL-BLN. If approved, construction is planned to begin in fall 2026 and conclude early 2028. Landowners can reach out to their appropriate right-of-way agent with questions and concerns.

FALL 2025: AEP Ohio officials have filed a Letter of Notification application for this transmission line with the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) as the Van Wert-Haviland 138 kV Transmission Line Project, Case No. 25-0697-EL-BLN.
