Hunters Run - Hocking Park Transmission Improvements Project

AEP Transmission representatives plan to upgrade the power grid in Fairfield County.

About the Project

The Hunters Run – Hocking Park Transmission Improvements Project involves:

  • Rebuilding about 4* miles 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line in west Lancaster, and a section between Anchor Hocking Substation and Lancaster Substation.
  • Building approximately 3.5* miles of 69-kV transmission line connecting West Fair Avenue, Memorial Drive Substation, Cedarlen Park and Anchor Hocking Substation.
  • Retiring approximately 3 miles of 69-kV transmission line. The transmission wires and upper portions of the poles will be removed. The lower portion of the poles will stay in place to support existing telephone and cable lines.
  • Upgrading Anchor Hocking Substation.

*Final mileage is subject to the selected line route.

Project Updates

Fall 2026: AEP Transmission representatives invite the community to attend an in-person open house from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 12, at Crossroads Ministry Center, 2095 West Fair Ave. in Lancaster. You can view detailed maps, ask questions and share their thoughts about the proposed study segments with project representatives. There is no formal presentation, so you can arrive at any time during the event.

Your feedback is an important part of our evaluation of the study segments under consideration. We invite you to join us for an open house to review the study segments, view detailed maps, ask questions, and share your input with the project team.

This project involves the use of steel monopoles.

Pole Height: 85 feet*
Right-of-Way Width: 60 feet*

*Exact structure types, height and right-of-way requirements may vary.

Preparation for Construction Access

AEP Transmission right-of-way representatives plan to contact landowners along the transmission line route to discuss pre-construction activities. Some pre-construction activities include:

  • Reviewing construction access needs.
  • Trimming or removing woody-stemmed vegetation and removing or relocating non-habitable structures from the right-of-way.
  • Installing temporary gates, fencing and access roads.

Photo Simulations

Photo simulations are visual representations showing how proposed changes may look in a real-world environment. These simulations help viewers understand the potential impact of the project on the landscape and surrounding areas. By providing a visual comparison of the existing conditions and the anticipated improvements, stakeholders can better assess the project's design and its integration into the community.
